There are few things more relaxing than a hot shower after a long day or to start the weekend off right. With a few carefully chosen additions, you can make this time even more special, emerging rejuvenated, rested, and utterly spoiled.
Start With Your Skin
Invest in bath products that you absolutely love. Don’t put up with items that leave you blotchy or dried out; instead, splurge on high quality items with pure ingredients that leave your skin feeling soft, moisturized, and delicately scented.
If you can’t find ones that suit your skin type, try making your own. With a few quality ingredients you can make luscious toiletries that are healing and nourishing to your body.
Take Your Hardware Up a Notch
Choose a shower head that truly lavishes water. In general, the broader the shower head, the better the experience as it allows the water to fall like rain in a gentle cadence that relaxes as it cleans.
If you only have a bathtub, you can still enjoy a relaxing shower. Simply invest in a shower head attachment that allows you to experience the bliss of a long soak with the gentle massaging effects of a shower.
If you have extra cash for a small renovation, consider adding a picture window to your bathroom where you can bask in the soothing vibes of lush greenery while you wash the cares of the day away. If you don’t have a secluded backyard, by setting your bathtub just below the window, you can still enjoy the view while you have your “sitting shower” in complete privacy.
Soothe With Light and Scent
While some people think candlelight is only for the bath, it works just as beautifully for a zen shower experience. Set a tea light in a high-walled votive in the soap niche in your shower, or loop a hanging votive from the shower head where it can hang safely against the shower wall. Just make sure the votive is taller than the candle so there’s no danger of hot wax spilling over during your shower.
On the bathroom counter, light a candle under an essential oil burner filled with water and a few drops of a scent that is particularly fresh and clean-smelling such as eucalyptus, wintergreen, or lemon. The smell will fill your bathroom, transforming your loo into a spa.
Add Texture
When it comes to bath linens, purchase items that make the showering experience end as luxuriously as it began. Cheap linens only smear the water around your skin and make you feel like you’ve been swabbed with a greasy dishrag. Choose linens that are made of 100% natural fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp, or flax. These thirsty towels will soak up every drop of water while their soft fibers invigorate your skin. The same materials make for fantastic bathmats as well, drinking up every last drop of moisture so your slick bathroom floor doesn’t become a danger zone.
From scent to texture, make your shower an experience you look forward to again and again.
